Koch takes out Keith Murdoch Award
Tony Koch from The Australian took out the major prize at the fourth annual News Awards for his series of stories on injustice in remote Aboriginal communities.
Tony won the Sir Keith Murdoch Award for Excellence in Journalism, a $15,000 prize, for work which led to the jailing of five men for the rape of a 10-year-old girl at Aurukun far north Queensland. News Limited chairman and chief executive John Hartigan presented his Chairman’s Award to Evan Hannah, editor Netani Rika and the staff of The Fiji Times for their courage in standing up to government intimidation.
