Community Newspaper of the Year

The winner will be the newspaper that demonstrates the greatest improvement in its quality, performance and relevance to its readership.

Magazine of the Year

The award is for the magazine that best demonstrates how it has improved its connection to readers.

Website of the Year

The winner will be the site that best demonstrates innovation in use of the medium, and significantly improved performance and features.

Chairman’s Award

This award aims to capture the spirit of newspapers and News Limited and will honour extraordinary ideas, words, actions, or courage.

Scoop of the Year

The winner will be an individual or team that broke the single best exclusive story. Judges will be looking for evidence of journalistic enterprise.

Young Journalist of the Year

This award recognises mature judgment in young journalists. Emphasis will be on news-breaking, writing skills, initiative and investigative skills.

Campaign of the Year

Campaigns nominated can be on any issue, but they must have demonstrably brought about change and public benefit.

Features Journalist of the Year

The winner will need to display originality, creative flair, writing skills, analysis, insight, commentary and public benefit.

Sports Journalist of the Year

The work that wins this award would have broken news, and demonstrated writing skills and originality.

Business Journalist of the Year

This award is for excellence in reporting on business, finance and economics. Emphasis is on breaking news, writing skills and analysis.

Specialist Writer of the Year

This recognises work in specific rounds such as politics, information technology, arts and entertainment, media, transport, or other areas.

Sub-Editor of the Year

This award will be judged on the sub-editor’s five best headlines. Emphasis will be on headlines that are attention-grabbing, relevant, original and creative.

Photographer of the Year

This award is for a body of work. Emphasis will be on images that display originality, creativity, newsworthiness, technical skill and excellence.

Photograph of the Year

This award is for the single photograph that became the most striking and memorable image of the year.

Cartoonist of the Year

This new award recognises the unique contribution cartoonists make to our publications and websites. Judges will be looking for creativity, originality and flair.

Artist of the Year

This award is open to illustrators and cartoonists and covers graphics, cartoons and illustrations in either digital or hand-drawn formats.

Designer of the Year

This award is for the design of pages, covers, whole publications or sections in newspapers, magazines and websites.
