Specialist Writer of the Year

Journalists entering this category will work in specific rounds such as information technology, property, arts and entertainment, media, transport, communications, aviation, health, local government or other areas. It can include correspondents and bloggers It should be noted this award is NOT for business, features or sports writers, as they have their own specific categories.
Criteria
- Demonstrated unique expertise and leadership
- Writing skills
- Demonstrated use and understanding of multi-platform opportunities to enhance audience engagement
- Level of influence of work in wider community and to what extent it has affected behaviours, public policy or law
- Ability to translate complexities of specialist area into compelling and relevant journalism
- Degree of impact of work on the broader business, where relevant
Judges will consider up to five examples of work to support the entry.
The body of work that wins this award may include news stories, features, commentary or opinion pieces or a combination of these.
The emphasis is on news breaking, writing skills and expertise in the specialist area, as well as the journalist’s ability to translate their subject into relevant and compelling stories.

- A supporting statement of up to 500 words describing the work you submit. It is the most important element of your submission. You need to be detailed and specific in addressing how your entry meets the criteria.
