chairman and chief executive News Limited

Welcome to the 2010 News Awards.
With our transition to digital platforms gathering pace, there has never been a more exciting time to be in the media.  In every newsroom, people are inventing new ways of doing things. As a result, we’re seeing some remarkable creativity throughout the group and the News Awards are an important celebration of this.
As our editorial teams move towards producing more specialist paid content, and our newsrooms get into the stride of breaking news on different platforms, this is a year when I believe we will see some industry-changing work at the News Awards.
One category has changed.  The Website of the Year Award becomes Digital Journalism of the Year, in recognition of the vast expansion of the technologies and techniques we now use to deliver content.
Whatever the technology, it is the quality of what we publish that counts. It is the reason for our success in the past and, without doubt, the beacon to our future.
The News Awards are the pinnacle of that excellence in journalism. They represent the standard of work we all strive for, as well as an opportunity to admire, thank and honour the people who produce it every day.
I encourage you to enter the awards and wish you the best of luck.
