2011 NewsAwards entries open

Scoop of the Year

This award is for the individual or team that broke the single best exclusive story.

This award is for a single piece of work, not a portfolio.

Criteria

  • Impact on news agenda
  • How effectively multi-platform capabilities were used to enhance impact and engagement of scoop
  • Level of endeavour
  • To what extent the story was a catalyst for change in policy, law or public behaviour
  • Degree of competitive advantage over other media
  • Quality of writing

Judges will be looking for evidence of journalistic enterprise. Impact of the scoop will be a major consideration.

What to submit

  1. Only one piece of work is required – the original scoop.
  2. A supporting statement of up to 500 words in support of the entry. It is the most important element of your submission. You need to be detailed and specific in addressing how your entry meets the criteria and use the statement to explain the impact and consequences of your stories.

If your scoop had repercussions or follow-up stories, explain this in your supporting statement. Remember, this award is not for a body of work.

How many times can you enter?

Individuals may enter the same category only once a year. A story entered for Scoop of the Year may be submitted as part of an entry in another category (ie, Sports Journalist of the Year). However, the formal submission – including a completed entry form, supporting statement, and copies of the work – must be supplied in full for each entry.
