Artist of the Year

 

This award is open to both illustrators and cartoonists. It covers graphics and illustrations in either digital or hand-drawn formats, and editorial cartoons.

 

Criteria:

 

  • Creativity and originality
  • Artistic technique
  • Wit, humour, pathos and drama 
  • Vision and flair
  • Degree of difficulty /complexity of task
  • Relevance and understanding of news environment

 

 

What to submit:

 

  1. Five published examples of your work.
  2. A background statement of up to 500 words describing the body of work.
    Background statement
    The background statement for this award does not need to be as comprehensive as it does for other categories. However, please describe as fully as possible:
  • The assignment and its background 
  • What you were trying to achieve with it
  • Any technical or practical difficulties you experienced
  • Anything else that may be relevant to the judges.

 

It is preferable that you submit not only the artworks themselves, but also the page on which it was published so judges can view it in context of the story.

 

How many times can you enter?

 

Individuals may enter the same category only once a year.
You may enter more than one category (i.e., Artist of the Year and Designer of the Year), provided that different material is submitted for each different award.
