Preliminary instructions

Please note there are some important changes to the News Awards this year.
All entries this year will be taken though an entry portal and only digital entries will be accepted (so no hard copies or CD-roms).
The entry portal can be accessed from any computer anywhere in the world and you are no longer restricted to being inside the News Limited network to submit your entry.
The entry portal allows you to edit or delete an entry after you have submitted it just as long as it is done before the entry deadline expires on July 24.
The entry site closes on Sunday July 24 at midnight for all categories. Strictly no entries will be accepted after this time so please make sure you set aside some time to submit your entry that week.
There are some changes to categories:
- A new category Innovation of the Year has been created.
- Photographic and Photographer of the Year has been upgraded to Visual Journalism and Visual Journalist to recognise the enduring power of great stills photography and the emerging importance of video.
- Artist of the Year will incorporate illustrators, graphic artists and editorial cartoonist.
- Headline writer of the Year becomes Production Journalist of the Year, to recognise the excellence in not only sub-editing but page layout and delivery of content packages.
Please follow the following steps to enter the News Awards:
1. Read the entry guidelines and criteria of the category you are wishing to enter.
2. Prepare your entry by gathering all the elements necessary. These are:
- Your attachments of the work you plan to submit, whether page PDFs from archives, Jpeg images, or copy from Newstext [If you are entering a text or design category, click here for the guidelines for library PDF or page archive retrieval. If you are a photographer or artist, click here for the guidelines for saving and sizing images in Photoshop to the required size for entry. These can be printed out.]
- If a single story spilled to more than one page on the day it was published, include all parts of it in a single PDF.
- Any spill pages need to be incorporated into one PDF document. (Click HERE to merge up to five pdfs into a single pdf)
- Your supporting statements covering the piece or body of work.
- Get your Editor, Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor to sign-off on your entry.
- It is easier to prepare all supporting documentation in advance, but don’t worry you can still edit your entry up until the closing deadline.
